Merchants Sweep Driveline Baseball

July 25, 2021 – Everett, WA: The Merchants moved to 2-0 on the season against Driveline Select with a 8-1 victory on Sunday in the team’s final home game of the year. Wanting to rest pitching, the Merchants threw four position players with Max Nealon earning the victory. Everett pounded out eight hits and took advantage of three Driveline errors to win their fourth straight game.

Everett jumped on Driveline starter Connor Rooney, for four runs in the first inning. Jaxsen Sweum doubled home Max Nealon for the first run of the game. Andy Atwood followed with a single to score and then Brody Ponti doubled to make it 3-0. Merchants would add on one more run that inning on an error.

Cole Cramer worked out of a jam in the first inning and settled down going 4.2 innings without surrendering a hit.

The Merchants add to their score with a four run seventh inning with the middle of the lineup once again producing. Jordan Justice had an RBI double, Sweum drove in a pair of runs with a single and then Ponti had his second RBI double of the game.

Richard Higa homered in the eight inning off of Sweum for Driveline’s lone score.
