Merchant Alumni Earns All-WAC Honors
MAY 31, 2021 – Everett, WA: Merchant alumni, Andy Atwood (University of Texas Rio Grande Valley) has been named to the All-Western Athletic Conference (WAC) First Team.
During WAC play this year, Atwood hit .362/.439/.630 with eight home runs, eight doubles, one triple, 22 RBI, 31 runs scored and seven stolen bases. In 35 WAC games, he ranked second in the WAC in total bases (80), third in home runs and slugging percentage, tied for sixth in hits (46), ninth in runs scored, and 10th in hitting and on-base percentage.
He was also an All-Western Athletic Conference (WAC) Tournament honoree, hitting .368 (7-19) with one home run, one triple, five RBI, six runs scored and one stolen base. The Vaqueros fell 5-4 in the tournament championship to Grand Canyon University.
In 2018 with the Merchants, Andy hit .348.
