George Ferran rejoins the Merchants in 2018, having previously severed as the team's pitching
coach from 2014-2015.
Ferran was selected by the San Francisco Giants in the 23rd round of the 1983 and played five
seasons of professional baseball going 37-27 with a 3.05 ERA in 163 games.
In 1986, he posted a career high with a 16-1 record, 4 saves and a 2.29 ERA in 9 starts and 37
relief appearances. He is just one of two Texas League pitchers to have won the pitcher's Triple
Crown, leading the loop in wins, strikeouts and ERA. That year he was named the league's top
pitcher, the Topps Minor League Player Of The Year and his .941 winning percentage was the
highest in organized baseball in 1986.
He moved to the Pacific Northwest in 1989 after he was unable to return from a career ending
shoulder injury and reconstructive surgery to his throwing shoulder. Ferran was elected to the
Texas League Hall of Fame in 2008, his career record in the Texas League is 20-2.
Orginally from Granada Hills, CA he currently lives in Bellingham with his wife, Poli, and two
kids (Carmen and Miles).
